Individual therapy
At good chat therapy, a client centered approach is taken to address real life issues such as self-esteem, life transitions, burnout at work, family issues, or relationship breakdowns. Expecting worse case scenarios, self blame, or all or nothing thinking can lead to negative thought patterns, therefore therapy is adapted to fit the needs of an individual’s goals, build on their existing skillset, empower, and improve overall wellbeing.
Therapy at good chat is also adapted for BIPOC clients to tackle the unique challenges they may face including intergenerational pressures, understanding their identity, or navigating complicated family issues. Couples therapy
Good chat therapy supports both partners at whatever stage they are in their relationships with building resilience, and strengthening existing skills. Whether that is pre-marital counselling, building lost connection, or navigating major phases such as parenthood. Culturally adapted strategies are offered to navigate cultural expectations, core values, and family dynamics and boundaries towards a harmonious and balanced partnership.
Couples therapy at good chat focuses on enhancing communication and increasing connection between partners. The Relational Life Therapy (RLT) approach emphasises understanding the core issues in a relationship, while building trust through effective communication tools to improve relationships. Through this approach clients gain insight leading to personal growth and change to enhance each unique relationship with respect and understanding.
Perinatal Mental Health
At good chat, we support individuals and families through pregnancy, postpartum depression and anxiety, and the early stages of parenthood including relational challenges. In parenthood individuals can feel isolated, shame, guilt, and a lack of social support in this new stage of life.
Through strategies implemented by the Canadian Certificate in Perinatal Mental Health (CC-PMH), education, and tailored support plans based on the unique needs of the individuals and families to cope with challenges of parenting effectively. Focus is on developing skills to achieve goals, while improving communication, managing mental load, and setting boundaries. Client-centered care is also provided in a safe and non judgemental environment based on a client’s cultural, economic, and social background.
Child and family therapy
Children and teens often face challenges such as social pressures, self esteem issues, or anxiety. Good chat therapy works alongside children and teens to put in place strategies to manage and understand their emotions through establishing a safe and encouraging space, where they can express themselves without judgement.
Practical steps are used to restore balance to family life, and support relationships towards open communication. Parents are actively involved in collaborating to improve relationships and resolve issues, while being supported as a family unit towards growth in a healthy home environment
Specialized parent Support
Each stage of parenting can have its own struggles as we navigate different phases of our role that are consistently changing, which can feel exhausting, and can lead to burn out. Parents are faced with daily pressures of doing “too much” or “not enough”, leading to feelings of overwhelm and exhaustion.
At good chat therapy a collaborative approach is taken in guiding parents to navigate these stages with real world solutions to move towards an improved parent/child relationship and fostering stronger family bonds and communication, by deeply understanding their child’s behaviors and emotional needs, while providing parents with effective skills and tools to thrive as a family.
